چکیده

Misalignments of magnetic quadrupoles and biases in beam position monitors (BPMs) in the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) linac can lead to a situation in which the beam is off-center in the-disk-loaded waveguide accelerator structure. The off-center beam produces wakefields which can limit SLC performance by causing unacceptably large emittance growth. We present a general method for determining quadrupole misalignments and BPM biases in the SLC hnac by using beam trajectory measurements. The method utilizes both electron and positron beams on opposite RF cycles in the same linac lattice to determine simultaneously magnetic quadrupole misalignments and BPM biases. The two-beam trajectory data may be acquired without interruptingSbC colliding beam operations.

Observation and Control of Emittance Growth in the Slc Linac*

To produce high luminosity at a linear collider, the impinging beams must be focused to extremely small spots, thus requiring low beam emittances. At the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC), low emittance beams are provided by the damping rings, then accelerated in the linac. The linac cannot be allowed to cause significant emittance growth. We describe here the observed emittance of the beam at its lau...

THE INTRODUCIION OF TRAJECTGRY OSCILLATlONS TO REDUCE EMITTANCE GROWTH IN THE SLC LINAC*

Emittance growth of accelerated beams in the 50 GeV linear accelerator of the Stanford Linear Collider (SLC) arises from the effects of transverse wakefields and momentum dispersion. These effects are caused by small misalignments of the beam position monitors, lattice quadrupoles, and accelerating structure and by the energy specnum of the beam which changes along the accelerator. The introduc...

Special Slc Linac Developments*

The linac of the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC) ia required to accelerate several intense electron and positron bunches to high energy while maintaining their small transverse dimensions and energy spectra. Many of the linac systems have been upgraded to the new stringent SLC design criteria. The remaining systems will be completed in the summer of 1986. Special instruments and controls have been d...

A Dispersion - Free Trajectory Correction Technique for Linear

In this paper, we describe a new trajectory correction technique for high energy linear accelerators. Current correction techniques force the beam trajectory to follow misalignments of the Beam Position Monitors (BPMs). Since the particle bunch has a finite energy spread and particles with different energies are deflected differently, this causes " chromatic " dilution of the transverse beam em...

Slc Energy Spectrum Monitor Using Synchrotron Radiation’

The SLAC Liiac is being upgraded for the use in the SLAC Linear Collider (SLC). The improved Linac must accelerate electron and positron bunches from 1.2 GeV to 50 GeV while producing output energy spectra of about 0.2 %. The energy spectra must be maintained during operation to provide for good beam transmission and to minimize chromatic effects in the SLC ARCs and Find Focus. The energy spect...
